trend spy with Maarten Van der Horst

Published by Sophia & Jenny on 27th Feb 2013 @ 09:42

Part of the eclectic Fashion East alumni, Van der Horst has gone from strength to strength since his first collection and has been growing under Lulu Kennedys umbrella since 2012. As well as being named on of Selfridges ‘Bright Young Things’ Maarten has returned with a strong collection for A/W13 with a black and white heavy print inspired pieces in loungewear – who said you cant be cool while your lounging around? Our favourite piece was the white M slouch jumper and matching boxers!

Maarten draws his inspiration not only from pop culture, music, art and cinema but also from misunderstanding and turning this on its head with a great sense of humor. His trademark pieces include the ‘dragified’ Hawaiian shirt and the rockband tee.

Accessorise your wrist extension!

Published by Sophia & Jenny on 22nd Feb 2013 @ 12:04

So we were sorting through our LFW look book's/goodies and came across a jewellery brand we saw  that really caught our eye.

MFP-Maria Francesca Pepe is a striking contemporary jewellery brand whose look book really stood out from others.

The brand have beautifully presented the display of their jewellery across the pages with fun and quirky illustrations that showcase the jewellery perfectly.

If you like to be bold and stand out then this brand is definitely the one for you, think studs, rose gold, evil eyes and anything a bit edgy then check th brand out.

These pieces work really well to accessorise your favourite watch! We can imagine the look would work really well with a Michael Kors, DKNYMarc by Marc Jacobs, Casio the posibilities are endless!

Its all about the nails, rings and bracelets to accessorise your watch for the ultimate wrist candy!

We are loving the evil eye symbols used for nail art as well as a key detail within the MFP A/W Collection.

Brits Results

Published by Sophia & Jenny on 21st Feb 2013 @ 10:57

So who watched the Brits last night?

We loved every minute, especially the return of JT!

There were some very worthy winners announced, Emeli Sande proudy picked up a well deserved two Brits! One for Best Female Solo Artist and one for Best British Album.

The band of the night definitely had to be Mumford and Sons who received an award for Best British Group:

How pleased do they look!

Another double whammy went to the amazing Ben Howard, we love listening to his songs for relaxation in the office. Mr Howard picked up British Breakthrough Act as well as British Male.

We think he may not be used to the limelight somehow....

As well as supporting British Talent we were excited that Frank Ocean won the International Male Award as he is another artist we love listening to throughout the day.

Casually posing with his success!

Lastly we can't help but mention how much we loved JT's performance. The king of pop has defintely returned with a bang!

We're sure he has lots more instore for us all in 2013, Happy Days!

Fashion Scouting at LFW

Published by Sophia & Jenny on 20th Feb 2013 @ 16:51

We luckily managed to get a glimpse and a snap of Pandamonia!

Loving the little inflatable doggy, and we wish our hair stayed that perfect!

We also spotted some on trend quirky dressers that we had to snap up to share with you:

Vintage glasses from Rokit teamed with statement necklace, definately snap worthy!

Blingtastic!

Cute as a Kitten!:

Last but not least we came across jewellery designer Laura Hunter (on the right) found on - www.ilovecrafty.com, her pieces are quirky and bold which create a statement look to any given outfit:

Trend Spy…

Published by Sophia & Jenny on 19th Feb 2013 @ 16:55

ELECTRONIC SHEEP

Up the tall winding staircase and through into a large sun filled attic type room at Somerset House we found even more unique designers and thankfully stumbled across the coolest knitwear brand, Electronic Sheep.

The design duo consists of Brenda Aherne and Helen Delany who learnt the bulk of their craft in Central St Martins and has also worked internationally and independently as fashion and graphic designers, as well as on continuous art and design projects for Glamour Magazine, Sunday Times Fashio and the V&A.

Their A/W13 collection is inspired by a fascination with contemporary and fantasy meteorology (yes we had to read that a few times too) called Typhoon Puppets, which is much easier to pronounce! Knitted collages mix up science, city and industry in tapestry-esque detailed scenes in vibrant colours of green and purples resulting in a rather graphic collection.

In true Electronic Sheep style there is a fun and quirky approach to their designs with comical figures, fringed jumpers, patterned ponchos and oversized circular scarves. We took a few snaps with our i-phones to give you a glimpse of whats to come this winter. Our favourite is the green jumper with black fringing - it almost has a futraristic cowboy element to it! We just wish we could have one now to wrap up in the winter sun with!

Scandinavian Movement

Published by Sophia & Jenny on 18th Feb 2013 @ 17:02

For the first time during London Fashion Week, Scandinavian countries have had the opportunity to present both established and upcoming designers from Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Known for their strengths in design of simplicity, minimalism and quality. As we entered the exhibition and showrooms in the left wing of Somerset House we were greeted with 12 mannequins and short blonde wigs each with magnificently designed and different looks.

We were lucky enough to catch one of the Swedish designers on Friday as we were admiring her crystal creation. Sofia Bahlner who designed this stunning heavily embellished jacket and shorts with hundred of crystals hooked in onto the leather and suede mixed material with miles of fishing wire.

When we asked Sofia how long it took to complete the look, she simply showed us her hands and we knew instantly that is wasn’t an easy task. It showed an incredible attention to detail and bold experimentation that made her look stand out amongst others. Her work has already been featured in Vogue and we look forward to seeing more of her in the future! We felt positively cool after leaving the room with a fresh outlook on future fashion from our overseas friends.
